ABOUT/BIOS
An electroacoustic thesis statement in avante-garde performance, HARP+ redefines the pedal harp by deconstructing sonic stereotypes. Featuring electronic interpretations of Luciano Berio's Sequenza ii per arpa sola and John Cage's Postcards from Heaven along with spontaneous performances of composed and improvised elements, HARP+ is an hour and a half long concert experience with a 15-20 minute intermission. Montreal-based saxophonist Gavin Goodwin aims to explore the possibilities of the saxophone as a vehicle for musical innovation and experimentation, having performed across Canada, the United States, the UK, and Italy. His portfolio of commissions and premieres is ever expanding as he seeks out up-and-coming composers, collaborations, and interdisciplinary performance opportunities. He is currently a co-commissioner in a consortium led by Canadian saxophonist Samantha Etchegary for 5 new solo works for saxophone from both Canadian and American composers. Highlights of Gavin’s 2017-18 season include a concerto performance of Debussy's Rhapsodie for saxophone & orchestra with the McGill University Contemporary Music Ensemble, and performances in Michigan, Ohio, Italy, and throughout Ontario and Quebec. www.gavingoodwin.ca
